DARTMOUTH — Budget Advisory Group discusses structural deficit and school review options. The Dartmouth group, chaired by Christopher O'Neil, spent much of its May 19 meeting deliberating whether to commission an independent operational review of school operations as part of addressing the town's structural budget deficit, where expenses are rising faster than the approximately 2.5 percent annual growth in local tax revenue. Town Administrator Cody Haddad and Director of Budget & Finance Gary Carreiro outlined ongoing efficiency initiatives, including bringing custodial services in-house for approximately $40,000 in estimated annual savings.

The school department represents roughly 60 percent of the operating budget, and members agreed to systematically evaluate all cost-saving measures before considering any override vote.
