Budget Advisory Group · Meeting of April 28, 2026

Dartmouth Budget Advisory Group reviews structural deficit report. The group met April 28 to review a preliminary five-to-six-page report on the town's structural deficit, where spending growth exceeds revenue growth. Chairman Christopher O'Neil noted the current budget is balanced but required shifting nearly five hundred thousand dollars from other areas.

Members debated whether the report adequately addressed challenges across all departments beyond schools, and discussed cost-saving options and possible third-party efficiency reviews. Town Administrator Cody Haddad indicated a high school roof project could trigger a thirteen to fifteen million dollar debt exclusion vote as early as late 2026, with possible operational override needs for FY2028. The group plans to refine the report for discussion at its May 19 meeting. ===BRIEF===
