Dartmouth panel endorses $2 million Pascamasset land deal
Conservation · Meeting of September 1, 2026
Dartmouth conservation panel backs $2 million river land buy, presses developer on subdivision lapses. The Conservation Commission voted 5-0 to recommend $1 million in Community Preservation Committee funds toward acquiring 29 acres at the former Hawthorn Country Club, a deal Buzzards Bay Coalition's Mark Rasmussen said would cut an approved 147-unit development to roughly 65 age-restricted units; Chairman Mike called it "a remarkably good outcome for everyone." Separately, commissioners continued a 3 Raphael Road home hearing after staff found unmaintained erosion controls, paved-over catch basins and a possible "covenant lot" violation across the surrounding subdivision. "Your client's innocent to the problem, but unfortunately, it's almost like guilt by association," Mike told the applicant's engineer.
The panel also issued orders of conditions for apartment and single-family projects on State Road and Gulf Road, and voted 3-1, over Commissioner Donald's objection, to continue a dealership hearing to September 15.
