Finance Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026

Dartmouth Finance Committee previews a 15-item fall warrant anchored by a $1 million conservation buy and a $1.6 million water loan. The panel previewed a Community Preservation Committee recommendation of $1 million toward a $2 million purchase, with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, of a conservation restriction on roughly 25 acres at the former Hawthorne Country Club, cutting a prior 138-unit 40B proposal to 65 age-restricted units. "To protect the aquifer is just a phenomenal opportunity for Dartmouth," said member Deirdre F.

Welch. Officials also previewed authorizing up to $1.6 million in Water Enterprise Fund borrowing for a Route 6 water main tied to a MassDOT project, expected to save $400,000 to $500,000. The town's roughly $600,000 FEMA storm-reimbursement claim was denied; the state supplemented $400,000 toward an $800,000 snow and ice deficit.

Members also weighed raising the domestic animal fine from $50 to $300 after a loose cow totaled a police cruiser.
